About José
…began with taking up digital photography in the early 2000s as an antidote to work life. I have been influenced by many artists, including Andy Goldsworthy, Maurits Escher, Paul Klee and David Hockney. The use of colour and geometry in these artists’ work hold a particular fascination.
Stopping work in 2017 has allowed time to look at the world more carefully. There’s a lot to see. Time spent looking has made me much more interested in interpretations of reality than unfiltered reality.
The long days of lockdown in 2020 made me focus on the minutiae of everyday objects, such as the bubble shown here. I began noticing more about surfaces, shapes and colour, the darkness of shadows and the transience of light. Not much art survives for long, but we can enjoy it for as long as we are here.
